Geophone

Geophone

A geophone is a device which converts ground movement (displacement) into voltage, which may be recorded at a recording station. The deviation of this measured voltage from the base line is called the seismic response and is analyzed for structure of the earth.

The majority of geophones are used in reflection seismology to record the energy waves reflected by the subsurface geology. In this case the primary interest is in the vertical motion of the earth's surface.

Geophones are very sensitive devices which can respond to very distant displacement. Paranormal investigators use geophones to measure displacement in a room of a house where there are claims of foot steps being heard. It is possible that small signals can be drowned by larger signals from local sources in the house.

It is possible though to recover the small signals caused by large but distant events by correlating signals from several geophones deployed in the house.  It’s important to have more then two geophones to conduct a scientific experiment to rule out other causing displacements in the house.

Paranormal investigators use our geophones as a visual tool to recognize vibrations. If there are claims of footsteps down empty hallways, or furniture that seem to move by themselves, they will be able to visually see this with on the geophone sensors. This is by far one of our most handy tools that an investigator can use to detect loose pipes, rattling windows, normal vibrations that associate with old houses. An old house can cause displacement in other parts of the house making it feel that there are other people in the house.
